SU!: Texting

Betsy Graves

Hi, I was wondering what the opinion is for texting your customers? Do you think it is good business etiquette?

Ask them----I do text a few customers, the ones I know text a lot.
Others don't want to text or don't have that on their phones.
I think asking if they would be open to receiving text is the first place to begin. But don't let it take over other forms of communication......calls, emails, etc.
In this day and she I think it is fine....after asking.

I always ask my customers the following:

1)  Do you text?
2)  In addition to regular forms of contact, would you like to receive a Text Message especially for any specials and class reminders?

I would say ALL of my customers that are under 35 like to receive text messages, between 35 to upper 40's about 70% and over 50 is a handful of clients that do text.

I ask them. Some people prefer it. I do not, but it's not about what I want. It's about them. ;-)

Re: SU!: Texting

Ellen

I agree with most of the responses.

Ask. They may not have the option on their phone and they may not WANT IT.

It is a great tool for the hostess to remind her of dates and times,
when the order is going, when you will deliver it, etc.

Classes they have signed up for. TEXT to remind them of the date, time
and what to bring.

Any time you need to cancel something, class, workshop, delivery, etc.

It should not be your only way to communicate with your customers.

AND I am over 60 and I LOVE texting. I can answer it when I want or
have time. If a reply is not needed, I do not have to.

Remember, NO TEXTING AND DRIVING.

I always ask.  Some people have limited texting on their plans or block texts from people they don’t know.  If YOU are paying for texting (either in money or in numbers of texts) you might be wasting some of your resources.  If you ask and you have it recorded somewhere, you are covered.  I consider getting permission to text as important as getting permission to send newsletters.

I know I am late on this reply but I can tell you that I have stopped
buying anything from two people who decided to start sending me texts
without my permission.  I was really shocked that they did it.  At the
time I paid for each and every text--and I know many other people who do
the same. In my opinion this is a real NO NO!
