Yipes! All Holiday carryover sets retiring

Mason Hutson

I just found out from DS that all of the Christmas sets that are in the Holiday carryover list are being retired June 2nd.  I had a customer ask me about this as she (and others) like to start their Christmas cards way before September AND like to have something new to do them with.   I told him (DS) that they weren’t on the retiring list and was he sure and he checked again and said yes, all retiring.  I said do you realize that we will have zero…zip Christmas sets to sell our customer until September (August 28th…may as well be Sep).  Am I the only one that didn’t know this? Geeez.  I guess I’ll have to talk Christmas in my May class.

That causes a problem for us that start Christmas card clubs and classes in July.  My customers like to get them over.

I wonder if that is the correct answer??  There is NO Christmas in the new
catalog.  Just went through stamps page by page.  But the categories are
totally different so I could have missed them.  (E.G. any set that has the
word to do with Thanks is in the "thanks" section.

I just called them about something else and asked about this too and was told that if it's not in the main catalog then yes it's considered retired.

So this is what I did.  I took the opportunity of no Christmas sets
carrying over and sent an email to all of my customers letting them know
that if they wanted to work on Christmas cards over the summer, the current
list is what they should choose from as there would be no new sets until
the end of August.

They were pleased to have been notified.  And we have designed cards and
placed the orders for their supplies.

I would love to see an official announcement about this from SU.  Sometimes
DS is a little confused!!!!!  They should have been on the retired list if
they were going away.

Ruthie Burkey
This is the same way they did it last year.  Here is our opportunity to showcase all the
regular sets that can be used for Christmas, some just as they are and some
altered just a bit.

Chalk Talk – Page 11 – the floral looking image with the
blank circle in the middle could be colored in Christmas Colors with a little
rosette in the center and used as a focal point.

Teeny Tiny Wishes – Page 18 – Stamp the Merry Christmas
saying several times down a banner

And Many More – Page 20 – Stamp the Very Merry several
times down a banner

Project Life Day to Day – Page 26 – Use the sample
trading out any of the red or green Designer Series Paper Packs and use
December 25 or stamp the calendar, circle the 25 and use the December stamp
with that.

Borderettes – Page 34 – stamp the triangle border in
green and draw “trunks” with an Early Espresso marker.   Stamp the striped image in red at an angle
across the page to mimic candy canes.

Tape it – Page 37 – stack the layers to make a “Charlie
Brown” Tree, use a ¼” strip of any brown cardstock for the trunk.

My Digital Studio – page 40 – ‘nuff said, the sky’s the
limit.  Teach hybrid cards.

Sassy Salutations – page 67 – Has a Merry Christmas stamp.

Everything Eleanor – page 69.  Layer the Merry Christmas Stamp onto the bold
image, use the circle image as a wreath (just punch out the middle part with to
get rid of the lines), stamp the flourish in green and add rhinestones colored
with our new Blendabilities.

Daydream Medallions – page 70 – any of the images can be
used as a wreath.

Playful Pennants – page 92 – the striped, polka dot or
solid pennants could all be used for trees with a ¼” strip of any brown
cardstock for the trunk.
Be the Star – page 93 – show how to use this and make 3D
stars.

Embellished Events – page 105 – Santa Hat with Ho Ho Ho

Banner Banter – page 111 – use with the matching punch to
create a card just like the sample but using Christmas colors.  Leave the saying off the banner and stamp the
Merry Christmas from Sassy Salutations across the bottom.  Use the gold or silver baker’s twine for the banner.

That’s the Ticket – page 116 – Christmas Wishes

An Open Heart – page 119 – the branch could mimic
Mistletoe is colored in greens and Pearls could be used for the berries.

Petite Petals – page 125 – the polka dot imare and the
sketched image could be used in red with two of them layered to look similar to
a poinsettia, use a gold Dazzling Details for the centers.

Petite Pairs – page 134 – Merry Christmas and a Happy,
joyful, bright New Year

cane and any of the little drinks can be colored in Christmas colors

red and layered to look like a poinsettia.

used for ornaments.

For the Birds – Page 168 – precious Merry Christmas with
skating bird
Life in the Forest – page 171 – tree image.

Diane Harman
Thanks for the list Ruthie!
Although, I too, wish there were a couple of Christmas only Stamp Sets in the catty like they were last year.
But I am definitely going to save this list for when it comes time for my Christmas Class.

Ruthie,

You are awesome!  I love people who are so great at thinking "out of the box".  Are you posting samples of all of them soon?  (kidding)  You are a true example of someone who makes lemonade when life gives you lemons.

Very inspiring!
