Painted Harvest Tips and Tricks

With the seasons changing, we thought it would be the perfect time to talk about one of our most popular products: the Painted Harvest Stamp Set. If you've ever used this autumn-themed set, you know one of its most endearing attributes is that it gives you the look and feel of painting with watercolors. And, like any work of art, there are many factors that influence your final product. We wanted to take a moment to let you know that we designed this set to help give your stamps a one-of-a-kind feel. Because this stamp set is meant to mimic the nature of watercolor, it's particularly tricky to produce and can create varying results.

For the perfectionists among you (or those simply looking to master your craft), we thought we'd give you some tips and tricks for stampin' like a pro!

  • Stamp all layers of the image
  • Make sure your ink pads are well inked
  • Use nice, even pressure when stamping
  • Use the Stampin’ Pierce Mat
  • Keep in mind that lighter colors won’t show up as deeply as darker colors
  • Play around with saturation levels (e.g., stamping full strength vs. stamping off) to get your desired look
  • The stamp is not supposed to match the flowers on the Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper

Alaska Incentive Trip Registration Will Begin November 2

Have you earned enough flex points to redeem for the 2018 Alaska incentive trip? If you have—congrats! That’s a huge achievement. Are you close to earning 160,000 flex points? Keep going—you have until the end of September to get there. You can do it!

If you’re planning on joining us in Alaska, you’ll need to redeem your flex points for the trip by October 31, 2017. Because of this flex point deadline, we decided to change the registration dates for the trip so it begins after all of you who want to use your flex points for the trip have had a chance to do so. Registration for the trip (after you’ve redeemed your flex points for it) will now start November 2, 2017 and go through January 10, 2018.

For your convenience, you can now find price information for additional guests and cabins for this trip. Visit the 2018 Incentive Trip page.

Extension of Communication Council’s Service

  • Connie Stewart (US)
  • Genevieve Ko (CA)
  • Moira McIlroy (FR)
  • Silvia Werner (DE)
  • Stella MacKay (US)

Beat the Holiday Rush with a Season of Style

Have you ever noticed that the Christmas holidays sometimes sneak up on us? And since getting behind on holiday prep is so easy to do, now is the perfect time to invite your customers to sign up for Paper Pumpkin (or renew their subscriptions). Why? During October and November, subscribers will receive two straight months of perfectly coordinated Christmas cardmaking and gifting projects—with everything they need delivered straight to their door. And because our kits are pre-cut and ready to assemble, they can get that handmade, heartfelt touch in plenty of time for gifting.

We also carefully designed our Season of Style projects so crafters of all skill levels could feel a sense of accomplishment and say: “Wow, I made all of this cute stuff myself!” If those are words you love to hear, don’t delay. Unwrap the fun details here, then share the news with your friends and neighbors today. Important note: To get October’s kit customers must subscribe at paperpumpkin.com by 11:50 PM (MT) on October 10.

RE: SU!: UPDATES: September 26, 2017: Week Updates, Week 39

Phyllis Strickland
In reply to this post by Maria Pobre

How interesting!  This past weekend I came across a stack of Blendabilities that I took back from customers in exchange for product or $$ because the SAB exchange with SU was so unworkable (unfair – offered items nobody wanted).  Instead of putting them away again, I left them in sight on my desk to remind me of all the $$ I lost from making it right, purchasing ALL the Blendabilities for myself that I then could not use except personal use, and lost sales from customers who refused to buy from SU for some time.  I placed them front and center to remind me that if SU comes up with any new alcohol marker or other product line to wait at least 6 months – 1 year before I hop on the bandwagon.

While I too am leery of ‘jumping on the bandwagon’ too soon again regarding the markers, I’m not sure why people are saying they lost money, or were ‘burned’ by SU! over the Blendabilities.
Remember – SU! did take them back, and let us choose products to replace them with, at value. I was very happy to be able to replace my unusable markers with good product!

RE: SU!: UPDATES: September 26, 2017: Week Updates, Week 39

Phyllis Strickland

You are right, SU did take them back.  HOWEVER, markers that were earned as SAB could be exchanged only for SAB and most of them had already earned all the SAB product they wanted.  Yes, they were free, but many people spent a lot more than usual to get the SAB markers – leveraging their purchases since Blendabilities were an expensive purchase at $9.99 per color because you had to buy a set, just like this round.  That is what I got stuck with.  There was no problem with exchanges for markers that were purchased outright.

RE: New Alcohol Markers

SUDSOL Leadership Board

In reply to this post by Phyllis Strickland
Regarding the Alcohol Markers, let's not rehash what happened in the past.   Instead let's discuss how we can approach the situation now to:
1) Ease our customers concerns if they purchased the Blendabilities in the past.
2) Work these into our business in a manner that doesn't break the bank.
3) Promote them in a responsible manner to our customers.

Thanks,
Coleen & Patti

ps.  If we get to just complaining/rehashing the past bad experience with the Blendability Markers, we'll shut down this topic to future posts.

I totally agree.  I need some suggestions on the best way to introduce my customers to these markers.  My customers are still talking about how badly the situation was handled by SU!

I think it will be important to know when more colors will be available.  This is a very limited assortment to do any coloring of things like flowers or leaves.
A lot of my customers already have some copic markers as do I.  Some bought last time we had and all returned them.  I am looking for input on how to convince my customers to buy.  And iam not sure I want to spend the money now with the new occasions available after Salt Lake City.  I will get far more sales from Occasions orders

Re: SU!: New Alcohol Markers

Sue Erickson

I'm excited about the fact that you will be able to order individual ones when they are available to the customers so that when one runs dry, you will be able to order just that one. (I'm sure they will eventually run dry. Even our Stampin' Write markers run dry.) And maybe a customer will want to order just a few light or dark colors to give them a try without having to buy the combo at first. But someone had a point, buying the whole set in October will cut into funds for early preordering Occasions and Sale-A-Bration sets.

Re: SU!: New Alcohol Markers

Laurie Rigo
In reply to this post by SUDSOL Leadership Board

Maybe they will be introduced to our customers in the Occasions Catalog.  If that is the case, we are getting to preorder them extra early. I won't be spending all of my preorder dollars at one time.  I can spread it out a little.  I may be able to use Flex Points for a partial discount too, since we have to redeem them fairly soon.

I have quite a few customers that are new since we had the Blendabilities, so they have no prior experience with them.  If I purchase the new markers in the preorder, I have the opportunity to show my customers how great the new ones are before they are able to purchase them.  I know they will be excited when they see them.  It also gives me a chance to be more proficient using them.  I have never used Copic markers, so I know I will have a learning curve myself.

Promote how they are Stampin' Up! colors, so they will match our papers, inks, DSP....  supplies they have already purchased from us.

Re: SU!: New Alcohol Markers

Libby Dyson

I thin we need to ficus on the positives for our business:
  1. These are a totally NEW product
  2. They have undergone rigorous testing for evaporation and longevity
  3. Purchase will be available to customers of individual markers
  4. Each colour (except Ivory and Bronze) has a light and dark shade marker, available individually or in a combo pack
  5. Buy the set in the preorder and run a class which combines these new pens with other colouring tools - pencils, aqua painter and blender pen. Customers will then have a chance to use them and see how they can be used with other product
  6. You could offer it as a "Special Preview Class" or VIPs only who spend $X with you leading up to the launch - class would be free
  7. Make some cards with them and give/send to customers and offer a class combined with a bundle
  8. Other suggestions??

Re: SU!: New Alcohol Markers

Andrea Sharp

I have notes for a six month club that I captured from the Blendabilities days; I believe that the information actually came from a SUDSOL business chat that happened at the time. I never had a chance to get the club going before the recall happened (which actually is good, because it would have been way worse if I was half-way through a 6 month commitment with customers). I'm going to review the information to see if there is a way that I can structure a club around the new offering.

I totally agree.  I need some suggestions on the best way to introduce my customers to these markers.  My customers are still talking about how badly the situation was handled by SU!
