Re: SU!: Sending Cards During This Difficult Time

Beth Schreiber

I’m staying on top of my birthday list this year! Finally!
I’m also donating thank you cards to a local group making masks for medical personnel. They enclose a card with an encouraging message with each order of masks delivered.

QOTW: SU!: Sending Cards During This Difficult Time

Cathy Parlitsis
In reply to this post by Charlotte Lindmeier

Our question this week is:
Are you sending your cards to people to help them through this difficult time? How many cards have you sent?

I usually send out about 15-20 cards per month but now I’m sending TONS of cards!  Since the Quarantine (mid March in NY), I’ve sent out over 50!

Card Making is definitely keeping me sane right now. LOL!

Hope you’re all healthy!

In reply to this post by Cathy Parlitsis

Yes , I have been sending cards.  I have sent out 45 so far and I have heard from other sources that the intended that they have helped to cheer and comfort.  Many of my friends have started to follow suit.  I hope it makes a difference and I also hope this difficult time will bring back the joy everyone feels when getting a card in the mail.  It would be a very good thing to get away from all the FB birthday greetings etc.  Just the opinion of a card maker :)  Be safe and stay healthy

Hard to count. We’ve given out 3x3 love notes with a chocolate inside to the curbside pick up people, food delivery people, store cashiers & baggers, even the people at the place we mail packages. Sent Easter cards to shut-ins, plus we’d already sent “you’re our sheep” to our shepherding list. I continue to make & send birthday cards to my staff, and even though they never say anything during the school year, EVERY one so far has sent me a text or e-mail or posted it on our school Facebook page. So I’d say I’ve sent 50-60, handed out 20.

My kids have been impressed with my creativity....I tell them, it’s because I have time!

I've sent probably 50-60 including Easter cards.  My outreach has been especially to those who live alone or are in assisted living.  I write a newspaper column on gardening and get lots of magazines so I've been including articles I think would be of interest because people have more time to read.  Stuck out tongue winking eyeMaskSunglasses   Have had favorable feedback, too.  Aunt Lorraine especially liked all the articles and recipes on asparagus. I also send her crosswords out of the newspapers. She is confined to her room in assisted living and can only leave to go into the hallway to get her food trays...

For others, I include a devotional especially if they are grieving since there are no funerals during this virus crisis.  That makes their grieving more difficult as they haven't had the love and comfort of the memorial service.  Also, some are dealing with the cremation process for the first time.  These are complicated times.

Phoning those who live alone is also something I continue to do as they especially feel disconnected.  "Reach out and touch" by cards as well as  calling is my mission of ministry these days.  diane clark

I’ve spent probably 50 cards during this virus isolation. I’ve sent cards to the nursing home and also the senior citizen apartment building. These are people that would feel more isolated than families would. Mary

I am sending more out also.  I am trying to send thank you cards to people who are doing something special for someone else.  We have ladies in our neighborhood who are sewing masks for hospitals, doctor's/dentist's offices, etc. so I sent each of them a card.  Got several responses back thanking me for them and they were impressed they were handmade.

Re: SU!: Sending Cards During This Difficult Time

Jane Bone

Yes I am sending cards to those people shut & my family. I sent a really nice THANK YOU card to each dep. in the nursing home where my husband was last year. Wanted to make sure I included the housekeeping, maintenance, STNAs, Dietary, Office workers plus of course the nurses. There were 9 all together.

RE: SU!: Sending Cards During This Difficult Time

Karenlee Atkin
In reply to this post by Charlotte Lindmeier

I’ve been making a lot more cards but only just started to send them, so maybe only a dozen or so, so far…

But one particular “silver lining” to the quarantine (and working from home) is that I’m creating the cards that my boss sends to her leaders for their birthdays.  Normally, she uses mass-produced flat cards (but she does let me decorate the envelopes before mailing😊).  Now, though, I made a batch of these:

… and just yesterday, I sent several in hand-stamped (with an ancient SU alpha set from 20 years ago!) envelopes:

… so I actually get to stamp and call it “work”!

Yes indeed, perfect time to send out encouraging and thank you cards.  Sent out 12 more today!  I love sending “unexpected” cards…not just birthday and anniversary!

I have been making and sending out cards to family and friends.  It is my attempt to bring a little joy to someone’s day, and I am getting feedback that the cards have been much appreciated..

I sent out about 15 the other day…….the end of my March PP cards and then some others.  I was on a roll.  I’m trying to send out at least 6-7 per week normally.  And the responses are warm and lovely.

RE: Sending Cards During This Difficult Time

Robin Messenheimer
In reply to this post by Charlotte Lindmeier

I am sending cards to family and friends. I have 5 separate lists of 20 – 25 so far, and am working on List 4. After that, I’ll start back at list 1. So far I’ve sent out about 75 cards. My only “stash” cards were birthday and thank you cards, so I’ve been making hello, friend, and thinking of you cards. I’m making a new design today and should have 20 of those done by tomorrow and sent out by Friday.
