If you are only intending to use the silhouette for card making would the portrait be big enough?  Any advice would be appreciated.  I would like to use it with my MDS.

Phyllis, the Cameo is a model of the Silhouette brand. Jeni, the difference between the two seems to be the size of the cutting platform with the Portrait being 8 1/2" x 11". I think it would be perfect if you are just going to be making cards because it would have a smaller footprint in your stamping area.
