Re: SU!: Cards

joyce pacer

The sad problem we are facing is that so many of these places can not take items donated because they have to sanitize every thing they use.  I had a bunch of crayons, hardly used, and markers and wanted to donate them to our Church school art department.  They can not take them and are being forced to throw away every art supply item that students have touched from last year.  This is really going to extremes.  Joyce

How about churches - I'm on the Sunshine committee and we send out cards to people who are g going through bad times, and special occasions, etc. Right now we are sending out cards to people who live alone.

Rehab centers - people who are recuperating or doing physical therapy. They write a lot of cards to people at home etc.

Ronald McDonald Houses - residents use a lot of cards to keep in touch with family and friends while away.

There are groups that send to service men also. It was either Jeanne or  Joyce that gave me the address to send to for that.

I'm sure you will get other ideas also.

Re: SU!: Cards

grantj

On behalf of Christian Ed directors and ministers everywhere, it’s not worth the chance that a child might become sick from playing at church. And, in today’s society it’s not worth having someone sue the church because their child died of an illness they could’ve gotten anywhere-even if the church wins the lawsuit.

In reply to this post by Robin Messenheimer

I agree with Robin. Not only do I have boxes of cards I’d like to donate but also a professional work wardrobe that has mostly been dry cleaned. Since I’m retired I’d like to donate this to help a woman/women who may not be able to afford this type of clothing. They have been dry cleaned already and been stored in a closet. Still they want everything to be cleaned again. It is a little over the top.

RE: SU!: Cards

Elaine Lampropolos

Barbara,

I’m writing in response to your clothing you want to donate.  There is an organization called Dress for Success.  They provide women training skills, interview skills in both traditional jobs and nontraditional jobs.  I don’t know if they are all over the country.  I have always donated to their Pittsburgh, Pa site.  I grew up near Pittsburgh and went to school there so that is why I sent my donations to them. You can check them on the web.  With the virus, I don’t know whether they are taking any donations now.  Hope this gives you some guidance on your donations.

In reply to this post by Barbara Felece

We need to just hang on to these things - it will be a while, maybe a few more months? but things will start to open and then we can donate again.
My church never quit taking my handmade cards for the congregation to be mail and received and the thrift shops in my town are back open.
It will happen, we just have to be patient.

Also check to see if you have a Dress for Success in your area.  They work with women trying to get back in the work environment and need assistance.

I recently contacted a women's and a children's abused center. They are interested in crafts and clothing.

I have a customer who is making cards for the Military and First Responders boxes thru Operation Gratitude. She will take all the cards she can get! they are trying to make sure every soldier gets at least one card and hopefully more. Here name is Mary Ausloos and her email is:

My church never quit taking my handmade cards for the congregation to be mail and received and the thrift shops in my town are back open.
It will happen, we just have to be patient.

If anyone has boxes of cards to donate - I volunteer for Bring Smiles to Seniors and we could use them.  Myself I send about 300 cards a month to seniors.  If anyone knows anyone looking to donate cards, please give them my email.  I would love to work with something out - I will pay for shipping to get them.

Thank you
