Re: SU!: Question of the week

The Question of the Week for this week is:
SUDSOL has so many tools to make your business easier.  Have you ever used the up to date Workshop Planners, or the Step by Step project tutorials for customers?  If you answer no, explain why.  If you answer yes, tell us how it helped you and please be specific.

You can find the workshop planners on SUDSOL here:
http://sudsol.org/member/articles/category/classes/

You can find project tutorials in various sections on the SUDSOL website:
Patterns: http://sudsol.org/member/articles/category/patterns/
Techniques: http://sudsol.org/member/articles/category/techniques/
Video Library: http://sudsol.org/member/articles/category/video/
Not every Pattern, Technique or Video has step-by-step tutorials, but most do.

I used the workshop planners when I first started with SU!; now I just refer back to it occasionally.
I really enjoy the project tutorials; the most I used was this past Christmas, when I participated in the 12 Weeks of Christmas tutorial sharing.

Re: SU!: Question of the week

grantj

I used the workshop outlines when I first started. For the most part, I found I didn't have the supplies necessary to complete the projects. Mostly, I look at the pictures to get ideas.

I would distinguish between Workshop Outlines and Workshop Planners. To me a planner would include a timeline of when to do what to prepare. I've seen some either on Sudsol, SU! or commercially.

Donations?

Good luck, I was told a few years back (after submitting non-profit paperwork for an organization to SU) that SU stopped giving any donations because of too many requests.  SU did have criteria posted on how to submit requests back at that time.  It didn’t stop us when SU turned us down….we made more than 600 cards for the troops and 25 tins for Operation Christmas Child.  We have 2 more sessions at the Senior Center scheduled this year for Operation Christmas Child.

I do think it is sad that SU doesn’t support these local “good-will” endeavors with retired product anymore.

If you have swapped in the past, you can make those into full cards and use them.  It is a great way to clean house and give to a great cause.
Hope this helps,
Karen

I fully agree with Denise.  Stampin'Up helps the demonstrators in other countries, but not us.  I had the same experience several years ago when I followed the guild line and ask for help.

RE: SU!: Donations?

Linda Willimer
In reply to this post by grantj

Jan, Denise and all,

Stampin' Up does still donate supplies but:

1. You cannot stipulate what you want/need. They will donate what they have in excess of, or from supplies of retired stock

2. They don't usually donate so someone who is just wanting to make cards. They actively encourage demonstrators to provide the supplies themselves if they can.

If it is for a non profit or charity they may if you provide relevant tax information, or for a fundraiser if you provide information of the event, what or who it is for and where the moneys raised will be used.

I believe Stampin' Up may have stopped donating for a time, maybe because they were getting so many requests.

I received a box of supplies from them back in November that included two sets of stamps, a few rolls of ribbon, three packs of dsp and a few ink pads for my craft room at our local Breast Cancer Resource Center. I included a letter from the BCRC in with my request, explaining that I was setting up the room from scratch to enable survivors to make birthday, thank you and sympathy cards for the membership and local supporters.

I hope this clarifies your questions, if you need more information I suggest you contact SU directly.

Good luck!

Linda
