Precision Base Plate - Help

Sandy Hill
I was so excited to buy this plate knowing it would help tremendously cutting out all the intricate dies.  I am not happy with this.  Either that or my Delicate Ornament Thinlets don't work.  I tried cardstock, Night of Navy, ran it through the BS a total of four times.  This did not cut out the intricate pieces.  I changed the card stock to Blackberry Bliss, same thing.  I then started over and used a shim.  It cut some of the pieces out, but not all.  I took the advice of one of the ladies here on SUDSOL and used a brand new plate.  That didn't change a thing.  I then tried the wax paper trick, still nothing.  By this time I am very frustrated.  I took the precision plate off and just used my magnetic platform with the help of wax paper and dryer sheets.  It is still not cutting through any of the intricate pieces at all.  I was planning on using this set for my Christmas card stamp camp, but if I can't get anything to work, this will not be happening.  Can any of you give me any advice as to what I need to do next.  I have already called SU and she wants me to use a different BS to see if that will make a difference.  I guess I would, if I had someone close by that I could try theirs out.  Any info would be so appreciated and very helpful.  Thank you ladies!!

Re: SU!: Precision Base Plate - Help

Kathy Slamar

Sandy,
Did you try putting a paper shim along with the dryer sheet and wax paper.  I don’t think you should have to do this, but it sounds like you aren’t getting enough pressure when cutting.

Although I can get mine to work with regular card stock and foil, I did find I needed to put 4 sheets of computer paper under the precision plate acting as a shim.  I find that the most ornate ornament thin lit needs a lot of piercing to get the pieces out after it is cut.  I didn’t have as much of a problem with the other ornaments.  I have 2 BS and both work the same, although I think the newer one would probably cut without as many paper shims.  I don’t think my customers will buy this, because I personally don’t think it adds a lot.  If you use the old dryer sheet and wax paper layers, I think the results are as good.

Maybe if you took some pics of the setup you have (sandwich) it would help us help you long distance.

When you went back to the magnetic platform, are you using BOTH cutting plates?  You need to do that with the magnetic platform, whereas the Precision Base plate replaces one of the cutting plates.

Are you using the newer beveled cutting plates, or older straight edged plates?

Are you able to successfully cut with other thinlets or framelits with the same sandwich?

Just some ideas to try.

At convention they said NOT to use the new baseplate with the magnetic platform.  Are you having the same issues with the original platform??

RE: SU!: Precision Base Plate - Help

I want to thank everyone who responded to this post.   I was at convention and I really and truly thought I heard this could be used on the magnetic board.  I remember them saying keep you fingers out of the way or it will pin your fingers between the magnetic platform and the precision plate.  I don't recall them saying it was not to be used on the magnetic platform.

Amber Certa, thank you for mentioning that in a post, because I was really confused at this point and I called DS back.  I spoke to Alex and she said it was NOT to be used with the magnetic plate.  I did mention something I found quite interesting though.  Both the magnetic platform and the precision plate are on the same page in the holiday catalog.  With that being said (and I am not one for reading the info) the precision plate does show it is to be used with the Multipurpose platform.  Also the precision plate is to be used with only the thinlets not the framelits.  I did, however have to use a shim because it still wasn't cutting all the way through.  But with the shim, it worked.  Halleujah!!!

Again, thank you all.  I appreciate your input and help.

Re: SU!: Precision Base Plate - Help

I asked that very question this morning to DS.  The framelits have a slightly raised edge while the thinlets are thinner and the edge on them isn't raised as much.

I spoke to Alex and she said it ot was NOT to be used with the magnetic plate.

I don't know about that.  The delicate ornament thinlits dies match up with the embellished ornaments stamp set.  Is that what you mean?

If you know the name, can’t you check the catty to see what it’s called?  For example, there is the “Bold Butterfly Framelit” or the “Butterflies Thinlits. Now that I am looking at the catalog, I see that the Butterflies Thinlits set has a butterfly that coordinates with the Watercolor Wings and Butterfly Basics stamp set. So the information given to Maria was not correct.

I remember sometime in the past SU said that there was sometimes both in a package and they just chose the most appropriate name.  I wonder if that is the case with the butterflies?

I want to thank everyone who responded to this post.   I was at convention and I really and truly thought I heard this could be used on the magnetic board.  I remember them saying keep you fingers out of the way or it will pin your fingers between the magnetic platform and the precision plate.  I don't recall them saying it was not to be used on the magnetic platform.

Amber Certa, thank you for mentioning that in a post, because I was really confused at this point and I called DS back.  I spoke to Alex and she said it ot was NOT to be used with the magnetic plate.

It looks like they have changed the labeling method as they have added more designs to their inventory. I think it is time for me to take a closer look at mine to see if the other explanation is factual. ☺️

I remember sometime in the past SU said that there was sometimes both in a package and they just chose the most appropriate name.  I wonder if that is the case with the butterflies?

If you know the name, can’t you check the catty to see what it’s called?  For example, there is the “Bold Butterfly Framelit” or the “Butterflies Thinlits. Now that I am looking at the catalog, I see that the Butterflies Thinlits set has a butterfly that coordinates with the Watercolor Wings and Butterfly Basics stamp set. So the information given to Maria was not correct.

Can the framelits be used with the Precision Plate - or just the thinlits

Just curious

It's interesting that the video by Sizzix says to use the Precision Base Plate with the Magnetic Platform. BTW...I'm going to get the die brush and foam pad as it really will speed things up. I'm also going to put it into the sandbox as a desired product to carry.

Oh my, once they come out of the package how do I know whether it is a thinlet or a framelit? Man I hope this is not one of those dumb questions.

Can the framelits be used with the Precision Plate - or just the thinlits

Just curious
