Making Video Tutorials

Kim Douds
I would like to attempt making video tutorials.  I would appreciate any and all advice I can get.

The tools I have are an iPhone and a Macbook Pro laptop that does video.  Does anyone use one of these items and can you give me advice on mounting them or positioning them to video?  If I can use one of these items I don't have to buy a camcorder.....however.....I'll take camcorder advice too because I may just buy one if I have to.

Thanks guys!

You can use your iPhone and mac – no problem!
The new iMovie is awesome!
There are some great iPhone “holders” on Amazon.
You can just shoot the video and then import it into iMovie to edit it and then upload to YouTube.

Re: SU!: RE: Re: Re: Making Video Tutorials

Cathy Parlitsis

Unfortunately, I don’t know anything about windows but I know that a lot of people use Camtasia to edit on Windows.
You could do one of these:

It’s really about finding something that works with your space.  You can just get something that will allow you to mount it on your tripod.

I use a camera instead of my iPhone but I know Jan Wakeland uses her iPad and many people use iPhones.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
Hope that helps!
:)

I use my camera that has a movie setting.  I purchased a separate memory card that had a lot of memory.  I shoot my movies and then import it into iMovie.  I have had no problems doing this.

Pam Staples

Kim,

I use my iPhone to record then use iMovie to edit.  Now, I have discovered that you DO NOT want to import the videos using iPhoto as it really is difficult to get it transferred over to iMovie.

Instead, connect your iPhone then open iMovie and select the videos you want to import the. Import with the iMovie setting.  From there you can edit and use all the iMovie options available.

Here is a link to my YouTube channel to see the videos I've done with this setup:

Oh, I bought a special connection for my iPhone to be connected to a tripod.  (Basically bought a gorilla pod and the connector was included)

Thank you everyone for your help.  I liked your examples Pam.  And now I know to import with iMovie, which is very helpful.  I found this idea for making a video mount for under $5.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9Oj-cZidXc
