Blog Hop?

Lee Ann Hunsinger
I would love to get involved with a blog hop to get some traffic to my blog and get some of my ideas out there. I need to know though...how do I get into a blog hop? Do I ask? Are they invite only? Can anyone recommend any to start with?

Thanks so much!

Yes we did!!  There were two purposes for the SUDSOL Blog Hop –

1.       Show your customers that if they signed up with SU! there is all sorts of inspiration and help for them to be successful

2.       Show other demos the same thing! J

If there is enough interest – SUDSOL would be happy to get another Blog Hop going.  Email us at: slb@sudsol.org and we if there is enough interest (at least 6 no more than 12) we will get it going!  Perfect time to get people excited about the new catalog – and SU!

Before you join a blog hop consider the kind of traffic you will get. You want people who might become customers, not people who are already customers of other demos which is what you will get if you join a blog hop of other demos in your country.  If you DO want to do a blog hop with other demos, contact one in each other country and go from there!

Re: SU!: Blog Hop?

Kirsteen Gill

I don't believe blog hops are about attracting customers FROM other demos. I believe they're about demos helping one another, sharing what we love, inspiring one another and customers.

(I'm also a great believer in the fact that we don't own customers-they go where they want, whether that be another demo or hobby lobby)

Blog hops are also about traffic. The more traffic to/through your blog/website, the higher your ranking in search engines, especially if those visiting your blog leave comments.

Then, when someone in your area searches on an online search engine for even something as vague as 'crafting' then your blog comes up in the search.

I've gotten several new class attendees who have simply typed in a search engine for crafting classes not even using Stampin' Up! in the search box. These are people who haven't even heard of SU. And, the problem with the demo search on the SU website is that customers need to already KNOW about SU in order to find me.

The customers that regularly follow me or attend my classes love the blog hops I participate in. I have a certain style of crafting. On a hop they just click 'next' and get to see lots of different styles and use of SU product, different to mine. That inspires THEM and when they come into class next they have a wish list-from things I haven't shown them. It's like advertising - but free!

On a SUDSOL blog hop we promote SUDSOL. There was a link to the SUDSOL page so demos could join. And, when many of us now are direct to Stampin' Up! after the new plan came into place, it may be a great time to encourage new members? I know a lot of my online followers are demo's. I'm never going to be able to sell them product. But, if I can inspire them to create a project, stay active and maybe join SUDSOL, then I'm all for that :) In the long run that also inspires me!

Just my 2c worth.

Re: Blog Hop?

Deborah Smart
In reply to this post by Kirsteen Gill

I agree with Kirsteen as well; I was just typing my reply when I saw what she posted!

I participate in blog hops mainly for the increase in traffic to help increase my blog rankings.  I also participate because it lets me show even more projects to my customers – and if they see something they like, they either want me to teach them, or they want to buy the supplies to make it.

Do I get questions/comments from people in other countries to whom I can’t sell?  Yes, but by replying to them, I help foster a sense of ‘family’ throughout SU!, and I can help  them find a demo who they can connect with more closely.

Before you join a blog hop consider the kind of traffic you will get. You want people who might become customers, not people who are already customers of other demos which is what you will get if you join a blog hop of other demos in your country.  If you DO want to do a blog hop with other demos, contact one in each other country and go from there!

I would love to get involved with a blog hop to get some traffic to my blog and get some of my ideas out there. I need to know though...how do I get into a blog hop? Do I ask? Are they invite only? Can anyone recommend any to start with?

Thanks so much!

Might be interested depending on how many samples you'd require (time is limited right now).

Late to responding (Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms!)…….

I didn’t mean that anyone would be trying to “steal” other demos customers – ESPECIALLY among SUSDOLers!  What I meant was, given the effort most people put into hops, it’s hard when you get all this great traffic and no sales out of it.  Not to be completely mercenary but I know a few people who put LOTS of time and sometimes a special order into their stop on a hop and were very disappointed when they didn’t get anything back from it.

And yes, a temporary bump in traffic is nice but with the new algorithms that Google and now Bing are using, you need a lot more than just a day or two of mad stats to get those high rankings to do anything for you AFTER those couple of days.

I didn’t meant to imply that hops were a waste of time per se.  Just letting people know that those who experience a direct correlation in return on their investment tend to be small in number and to adjust their expectations accordingly.

But, if I can inspire them to create a project, stay active and maybe join SUDSOL, then I'm all for that :) In the long run that also inspires me!
