3D Embossing Folders

Kathy Slamar
I have a customer who is having problems with getting a good impression with her Brick & Mortar 3D Embossing Folder.  With my machine, I always use no tab, 3D folder and blue plate.  She said she did not get any impression with that.  Trying Tab 2 did not work either.

She said the instructions show Specialty Plate, Folder & cardstock, Standard Plate.  She is right on that, because I just opened one of my 3D embossing folders.  That makes no sense to me, because with the blue plate (I assume that is the specialty plate), there is no way to add another cutting plate.

I'm going to call DS, but I find a lot of times that don't have experience using the product, so they just read the instructions.  Any thoughts will be appreciated!  Thanks

Has she tried slightly dampening the card stock?

Some of our current design EFs were previously made by Sizzix and are a different thickness than the same design EF later made by SU.  Not sure if that is the case in this instance, but something to be aware of.  I have two folders of the same design but they are different thickness because one is older and was made by Sizzix.

Phyllis Strickland

It is curious that they did this since they don’t even have a machine.  I guess they have to reverse engineer their machine to fit the folder.  More likely, they will sell another
shim to make it work with the new machine.   $$$

I’m guessing they HAD to change something to avoid an infringement issue with Sizzix.

Kathy,

The Brick Folders were one of the folders that they redid. Have her add a piece of card stock in the layering if that doesn't work have her add another one. I've had multiple customers that one way works for one but not for others so I have had to figure out for each customer what works for there machine since they are all a little different due to manufacturing date.

Jeanne you are so right! SU would have to change stuff due to patent or risk being sued.

If they say sizzix on them use the platform, embossing folder, then a clear cutting pad.  The blue one works with the su folders.   Have her try this setup, I haven’t had any problems.
